Interested in getting started? Our next foundations series begins Saturday June 24th. Please see our foundations page for class times and full description. This is an opportunity for people new to Mt.Tabor CrossFit to learn the basics!
Here at CrossFit Mt. Tabor our goal is fitness. Our specialty is not specializing; we are concerned with our athlete’s TOTAL conditioning and optimal health. Fitness is about performing well at any and every task imaginable.
Ultimately, each of us is responsible for our own bodies, but we can all use some help along the path to improving our fitness. Our goal here at CrossFit Mt. Tabor is to share what we’ve collectively learned as we’ve navigated through various fitness modalities, methodologies and practices as athletes and with our athletes.
We are passionate about fitness. It excites us to show people what their bodies are capable of doing, when their minds tell them they CAN. We’ll be the first to high five and congratulate our athletes after a workout. We love sharing in the successes and victories of our athletes along their journey towards achieving optimal health, wellness and fitness.
What is CrossFit?
Our bodies were built for action in the same way our minds were built for thought. While our brains were meant to reason, explore, and problem solve, our bodies were designed to stand up to the forces of nature and it’s many elements. Now, naturally, times have changed and the level to which said strength is a necessity has changed with them. But, as developed and evolved as we are, primitive cortexes and neuro-pathways still exist that really enjoy when the body fulfills its intended purpose.
CrossFit is a General Physical Preparedness Program.
We are not a boot camp or sport specific program. We want to prepare you for the unknown and unknowable. General preparation for random challenges—i.e. unknown and unknowable events—creates fitter individuals. The problem today with most modern day gyms is they use fixed, predictable, and routine regimens. Trainers are also not educated enough to teach proper methods, or don’t push their clients hard enough. We constantly vary functional movements, and perform them with high-intensity. People who perform CrossFit will maximize their results.
We use the approach “evidence based fitness.”
A constant learning tool, people participating in CrossFit thoroughly use open source models to clinically test, and community test the methods that are coached. By doing this, we can track and record human performances, demonstrate fitness and programming, and optimize human performance. Results should be measurable, observable and repeatable.
CrossFit is performed in a group setting.
In using the fun of sport, we build camaraderie, competition, and intense output. This motivates individuals to excel and be held accountable to earn results. We find that even highly motivated or self-motivated people push themselves harder and get better results by working in a group.
CrossFit is hard!
But don’t be weary- anyone can do it! Males, females, overweight, young and old, prior injuries, dis-use injuries, you name it. We use a method of universal scalability: We help the not-so-fit to become fit and the already fit to become elite.
We want you to become Athletes.
We believe an athlete or someone who is fit to be: Equal parts gymnast, Olympic/powerlifted, and sprint/runner. An athlete consists of being well rounded at 10 general skills: Cardio/respiratory endurance, strength, speed, power, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy, and flexibility.
With regards to routine, there is no ideal routine! The CrossFit ideal is to train for any contingency. We encourage creative and continuously varied compositions that tax physiological functions against every realistically conceivable combination of functions.
There isn’t a strength and conditioning program anywhere that works with a greater diversity of tools, modalities and drills.
